Last weekend, we went on a quick trip to New Orleans to surprise Jeff’s mom’s for her 60th birthday! We spent only half a day in the French Quarter and this is the faux suede burgundy skirt outfit that I wore that day. These are the only photos we squeezed in since the other three days were for helping Jeff’s family with errands. Luckily, we still got to eat lots of yummy Southern food in the evenings!
Since we only had a limited time in the French Quarter, we stopped by two of our favorite places – Cafe Du Monde for beignets (twice in one day actually) and The Gumbo Shop for dinner (their gumbo is soo good!). I think this was my 6th time going to New Orleans now – you can check out my New Orleans travel guide, which is one of my most viewed posts ever! We also spontaneously went on a half-hour carriage tour. It was fun but I think there are better tours out there. I love how the carriage photo turned out, though!
This burgundy skirt is perfect for fall. In New Orleans, I was able to wear it with ankle strap sandals, but I’m planning to wear it with over the knee boots back in Seattle! The color is so rich and beautiful, and the faux suede texture is smooth and structured. However, it definitely bleeds – the skirt left burgundy marks on my mini tassel bag, denim jacket, and white shirt. The stains washed out of my clothes but I have no idea how to get it off my bag – any advice? For reference, I’m wearing a size XS and it fits true to size.
We started planning the surprise about a month ago. Jeff’s sister and her husband flew in at the same time from LA. We went straight to their parent’s store and surprised Jeff’s mom. If you caught it on Instagram Stories, it was such a sweet moment and, although the trip was short, her reaction alone made it completely worth it!
